The old tunnel beneath the river Elbe was completed in 1911. Its dimensions mirror the size of a horse-drawn freight cart with the driver holding the whip upright. To save space and cost,elevators connect the tunnel to the surface. Major renovations were begun around its centennial and now the tunnel is accessible for bikes and pedestrians only
