Most people think of the fiery pandemonium of an airship bursting into flames when they hear the name Hindenburg- in fact many things were named for politician Paul von Hindenburg, streets, dams and squares. Just like this lifeboat which was built in 1944. In its 35 years of service its crew rescued some 800 people. Since 1979 it has been an exhibit at the Kiel Maritime Museum. Nowadays there is a lot of opposition against using Hindenburg's name for the role he played in Hitler's rise to power
