The Lifeboat Service has a little museum in the old boathouse in Fedderwardersiel. Among the exhibits is this breeches buoy. It is essentially a lifesaver and a length of rope to use as a zip line. The rope is attached to the wreck and the buoy is then used to pull sailors to safety
