Built in 1888, it is also known as the small or electrical lighthouse. The latter name reflects the fact that it was designed for an electrical lamp from the start on- it even had its own power station which used coal delivered by the island's railway. Over the years it has served numerous additional purposes, the radar antenna was added in 1970 and for many years it was the site for a maritime radiotelegraphy station
