Rothenburg ob der Tauber is a small town in Bavaria. Notable for its medieval town centre with its fortified wall. For many this town epitomizes "small-town Germany". In fact, about 45% of the inner town were destroyed in 1945 when a bombing raid went astray. Later on it was reconstructed with aid from people from all over the world. Take away the cars and the modern parapehernalia and you could film another medieval flic there. I do have a funky connection with it- when I was a kid I read the Belgian "Yoko Tsuno"- Comics with rousing gusto- one of the stories takes place in Rothenburg. I got it into my head that I wanted to see that some day. I took me thirty years until I got there and ,in fact, recognized the place like in a deja-vu - a homely yet spooky feeling.
