LZ 130 Graf Zeppelin II at anchor

What most people don't know is that there was a Zeppelin after the infamous Hindenburg- Graf Zeppellin II was put into service in 1938. Since there was no Helium available it was once again filled with Hydrogen. The authorities, in fear of another tragedy, refused a proper Certificate of Airworthiness. After much ado it got a temporary certification with the stipulation that it may not transport passengers. Its cruises were shake down flights and meant to keep crew and infrastructure in use.A few purportedly were undertaken to spy on the British Chain Home RADAR system. It was hoped that the authorities might change their minds and lift the limitations- to no avail, in 1940 the airship was dismantled and its hangar blown up by the army corps of engineers
