Actually this plane is one hell of a legal work-around. It was owned by the German Air Force, on loan to the US Air Force, marked and registered as an American plane so it could be used at Sheppard AFB,Texas to train German pilots without putting the model through a full-fledged certificate of Airworthiness test according to German law. Sounds ridiculous but saved years and billions.
