City Nord, a planned business district in northern Hamburg, close to Central Park. Established in 1960 to 1979, it was to house the Headquarters of international companies, such as Texaco, Shell, IBM and the like. In the past years, many old residents left making space for new ones, redesign occured inside only since the area is landmarked. Each building is the result of an international arcitectural contest, some of them mirror the company for which it was built.There are no residential areas, only plazas for the immidiate shopping needs of the office workers. The concept of the "office town in the green" is dated, new concepts are needed. The trademarks are uniqueness, the large public green areas and the idea of "car-friendliness", pedestrian traffic is rerouted to a system of interconnected skywalks.
