Here is a rundown of things that I would like to see fixed in health care:
1. Abolish managed care. Replace with employer driven medical savings accounts or pay for performance contracting directly with primary care physicians. These savings accounts would be tax free and could by rolled over each year. Employers would match contributions made by employees to these accounts.
2. Come up with a federal system to insure access to a primary care doctor for all patients at appropriate rates. Taxes on alcohol, tobacco and "unhealthy" fast foods and restaurants not serving healthy choices.
3. National formulary system where patients choose their level of co pays (generic and non-generic) for prescription drugs. Higher monthly premiums equal higher co pays, lower monthly premiums equal lower co pays. The key here is that the formulary would be "open" including all drugs made today, allowing the physician and patient access to the drugs that are the most "cost effective" rather that just cheap. This would lower health care costs long term, via better outcomes, few complications and higher compliance rates.
4. Liability reform with caps on awards.
