Edward Hopper visits my home

In September 2007 I was fortunate enough to visit the Edward Hopper exhibit on the day it opened at the East Wing of the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC. This famous American painter was described by the curator as "obsessed with light and shadow." His obsession was catching! I left the museum and immediately started taking light & shadow-inspired photos around the city. A selection of those images can be seen in my gallery, Seeing the City Through Edward Hopper's Eyes.

This gallery again focuses on light & shadow, but here I invite you into the intimacy of my home.

The recent additions certainly do not display diminishment! A wonderful, and growing portfolio. It reminds me of a drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina in Fall. At every bend in the road, there are more Ooohs and Aaahs, as yet more wonderful vistas come into view! I'm enjoying this Hopper trip with you, Patricia.

Sometimes it is not 'what's not there', it is 'what is not not there'. I heard that recently in another context, but somehow it seems very appropriate to this very strong 'calendar' of 12 images. And a calendar it is. I can see the seasons, as my mind's eye wafts through this wonderful creation of yours. I see early Spring in #4, the Flowers in #5, the first leaves of Fall in #8, the shifting sun angles in #9, and lo, even the Spirit of Christmas Past in #12. This is a Calendar which must be published. Great work, Patricia, and thank you for bringing it all together. ~V~

I think Hopper would be pleased with this "homage," Patricia. You have evoked the quiet, often lonely, nature of his style, which is largely based on the play of light and shadow, and of course his richly luminous colors. You leave the color to him, and interpret his gifts in your own way.
