motion and stillness

I took this series of photos on Friday, November 23, 2007 at the Grand Reopening of the Detroit Institute of Arts. After six years of renovation and expansion, this 122 year-old museum reopened with a marathon 32 hour celebration. Admission was free and it seemed like all of Detroit turned out. But finding our way around this magnificently reinvented building was a challenge for everyone. That's why you see so many people in these photos examining bright blue and white brochures. That was the map of galleries.
