On this day when millions of persons in the United States and Mexico take to the streets in support of immigrants and workers rights, I add my voice to those who demand “Amnesty and Legalization” and an “End to Raids and Deportations.”
This composite image is made up of photos I took myself. By the way, that is true of all my composites: I only use my own photos. In this case, the background is a photo of a mural in Southwest Detroit where most of our Mexican-American sisters and brothers live. The ""We are not criminals" sign was held by a young man at the mammoth immigrants rights march and rally I attended here in Detroit on March 27, 2006. And I took the photo of the mother and her children in Ensanada, Mexico during a day trip there in March 2007. Prior to taking it, I asked and received permission from the mother.
