Mystery solved. I had posted a picture of this giant moth with folded wings and asked if anyone knew what it is. From this view I was able to find out it's a Polyphemus Moth, named for the Cyclops in the Odyssey because of the eye spots on the wings. An exercise in both entomology and etymology.
