The use of wide angle makes the subject wider in landscape. By doing it in a portrait instead of landscape, it extends the subject vertically instead of horizontally. This makes the subject look taller. By taking the picture from botton up instead of at eye level, it also helps to lengthen the subject's legs.
The picture will turn out even better if it's taken without the dark clouds.
