Constitution Marsh Audubon Center is cutting phragmites reeds ("common reed") and placing black plastic over the flattened area in increasingly invasive circle. They hope this will slowly reduce the size of invasive phragmites reed stands within the marsh. The area immediateliy behind the boars is flattened in foreground, the invasive phragmites reeds can be seen in the background. Phragmites grows in dense stands that crowd out other native reeds and diverse marsh vegetation used as a source of food and protection by wildlife.
