This young giraffe picked the horn of a kudu from the ground
and started to "play" with it and raise it up in the air several times.
This went on for several minutes and it was obvious that this was
not a "having fun" kind of situation, but rather seemed to have a
purpose. The guide in our vehicle explained that it was a way for
some animals to "obtain" or extract calcium and other minerals, which
in fact made a lot of sense since a los of species are known to extract
essencial minerals from the soil. I guess the giraffe figured that this was
the equivalent of a "Happy Meal". You eat it and have fun with it.
