Chicago IL - Oct 12-13 1963

Mike:

Thank you for linking me to your very interesting website.

Here is a photo which I believe was the very GENESIS of the WGRF. It was a railroad fair in Chicago where Dave Ingles, myself,
Ken Douglas, and a few others put together volume 1 number 2 of Extra 2200 South. I don't recall Jerry Pinkepank as being there
but the slide trading began in big time after that get together. At the time I was night enginehouse foreman at the PRR 59th St enginehouse.

In this photo you see me on the right and Dave Ingles on the left. Ken Douglas took the photo.

Being a railroad guy and married, I was not able to attend very many of the meets. but I traded slides with a bunch
of them over the years including Alan Miller, Steve Gartner, Ken Douglas, Dave Ingles, George Menge, Ray Sabo, Dick Wallin and others too numerous to mention.

Bill, I never thought of that October (I think Oet. 12-13 weekend, judging from the slides I keep running across getting me to Chicago and back to Jacksonville, Ill., where I was in college -- i.e., not Sept. as the GB&W C424 photo is labeled -- as the genesis of WGRF, but the rail industry event certainly drew many of who would become WGRF regulars beginning with the first "official" (tho by invitation) one in Cincinnati in April 1966. -- "J.D.I."
