It is with great sadness that the family of Michael McIlwaine announce his passing at age 60, on Wednesday, May 18, 2011
at the Hospice of Windsor-Essex after a brave but private battle with cancer.
Michael leaves behind the love of his life, Kathy, his wife of 24 years.
To say Mike was a train enthusiast would be an understatement. Railroads were his life
whether it was working as an operator, track maintenance worker, engineer, conductor,
or in his leisure time as a hobby. His passion for all things railroad led him to meet many wonderful friends locally and wherever he went on vacation.
Mike was a kind, gentle person, and a man of his word
who valued his many friendships. He was a “doer” not a “watcher”.
Fellow Port Stanley Terminal Railroad volunteers called him the “energizer bunny” for
his seemingly endless ability to put in railroad ties and spikes or to cut brush for hours.
