Thanks for the picks. I grew up in DeMarco Certeza Court, Dalahican, Cavite City. Our place was a former US Navy Officers compound outside Sangley Point. We're adjacent to Canacao Bay. Our neighbor was I can remember calling him Lolo Ramon Tirona. My great grandfather is Anatalio Mortera Laplap, former USAFEE based in Corregidor and later became the caretaker of Certeza Court. My grandfather Rodolfo C. Laplap was born and grew up in Caridad. My father Gregorio B. Laplap graduated in Dalahican Elem. Sch and attended CNHS. I have a lot of memories of Dalahican and Certeza Court. I also remember when I was a little boy my mother always bring me to the market and I always as for that hotdog waffle. And also remember the perya in PN every town fiesta. My grandfather always bring me to that break water to catch fish near the Cavite City Hospital and checkpoint. We move out in 1978 and relocated to Nueva Ecija. Since then we only go to Cavite City every Nov 1. I also missed the scenery of the "ASINANS" along the highway. Now it mostly houses.

Hi, my dad was stationed at Sangley Point and I think Subic Bay in the Philippines in 1968 or 1969 and spent 18 months total in the Philippines, and I think another year or so in Vietnam. He was in the radio/communications tower when a large earthquake (he thinks greater than 7.0) hit and destroyed buildings, including a Catholic school across Manila Bay, which he says had let out around noon that day for some reason. He can't recall the date, but says it was 1969 or 1970, probably 1970 he thought. His name is Rodney Wales from Oklahoma. I see a couple posts with mentions of a big earthquake - might anyone have any specifics about it? Thanks

Great Pictures, struck a note in my heart. I was ETN3 at Sangley Point - There was a big earthquake while there ~ 1970. I remember Lidos and Rita's Cantina. San Miguel Beer was great. I will always have a wonderful feeling about Sangley and the Phillipines. Just sent in a donation after the terrible storm Nov 2013. Trying to remember the names? Campion, Laurdsen, Chief Kinney, FRC32- ANFRC84 Linkert Microwave, Don Alderman, too old now and most are probably gone by now. Great to remember the great people in the great country. Thank You

Fantastic photos! we lived on base as dependants 66-69, I was searching the web for some images of Sangley to show my kids the places I lived as a little boy, and I stumbled on to your photos, Thank you for posting them, My Dad took a lot of photo's while we were there, but since he passed a way about 12 years ago don't know what happend to all tose images (mostly slides) please let me know if you post anything from the base during the late 60's I woould enjoy viewing those as well

The philippine goverment should never have taken control of Sangley Point NAS. I was stationed there in 1968 with VP-49. We had a house boy named Benny. A real nice guy. Sadly, when the Navy left, he probably lost his job, along with many others. With the money Cavite generated from the U.S. Navy, it was a thriving, beautiful town with great people. Had a lot of fun there at Rita's Cantina. Her place was not far from the gate on the left side of the street. Miss that place and all the friends I made. Dave Foos.

Was stationed at NavComStaPhil 67-68. Shared houses in the village with Pat and Koops and later with Frank S. Made some wonderful Phillipino friends. Wonderful country and wonderful people! Will never forget Lidia, Lucy, Luce, and Mina. Favorite ET hangout at Lido's.

I was on Sangley Point from 1955 to 1957 working at NavCommFacPhil with George Mikesell and Jess Escalante who were residents of Cavite City. Jess was a radio amateur with call letters DU1VVS. I first visited in 1973-74 when i was in 3rd grade with my dad and the rest of the family. My dad was born and raised there. He was maybe 16 when the island was invaded by the japanese and the locals headed for the hills. He joined tghe navy at this early age and came to america. Ive since been back for my Lola's funeral and burial in 1999. I have never forgotten Cavite City. My dad moved back in the 80's and lives there now and I miss him and Cavite City. I feel a deep love for Cavite and hope to live and die there someday. I miss it terribly as though it were my home. I cant explain it. It must be in my blood. these pics make me homesick and even I dont understand why I feel so close to cavite in my heart. I miss you Cavite and I miss you dad.

i was stationed at sangley fron 57-59 great place.tryin to find someone from fasron119, i sure enjoyed pictures, brought back a lot of memories.im 75 so im not sure if there is to many left from those years.

i was born in the early 80's here and i can say that back then, cavite city was peaceful and beautiful...hope the local government would bring it back to its former glory...

next year i will go for vacation and surely i will visit again my loving home town!

This is one of the historic places of our country and even to ourselves. I have not been there but seems to be there already and will be there for the rest of my life. By mere looking at the pictures I feel like I'm there already with all the memories we love most.....

Thanks for the great pics. Spent about 18 mos.of my 4 year US Navy stint at Sangley NAS 1968 to 70, working as an electronics technician. My wife and I lived in Cavite City on Dra Salamanca. Fondly remember so many Filipino people, neighbors, and co-workers and acquaintances as the most warm and welcoming people one could imagine. Joined Cavite City Chapter of Toastmasters International and made some good friends. Good memories.

SPENT 18 MONTHS AT SANGLEY. WORKED AT HOPPITAL AS NAVY CORPSMAN, WAS WORKING IN DELIVERY ROOM WHEN EARTHQUAKE HIT. I REMEMBER IT DESTROYED HOTEL IN MANILA, RUBY TOWERS I THINK.
FROM THERE TO VN, AT LEAST I WAS READY FOR THE HEAT. OUR BAR WAS THE MISSOURI, BUT WE WENT TO ALL OF THEM. WENT TO MANILA A FEW TIMES, BUT NEVER FELT COMFORTABLE THERE,WAS AT A FANCY HOTEL ONE NIGHT THE MARCOS WHERE THERE.

Thanks to Bill and Google, it seemed like I was dreaming and woke up as a 10 year old boy 48 years ago. I went to grade school inside the base (Sangley). It was called John Paul Jones School. My dad was a local, but he worked for the US Navy. So at school, I was the only local with all the other navy brats. Behind the school was the hospital and its rubbing-alcohol-smelling halls. The school yard was there where we played kickball. Across the street was the commissary. And with a little more legwork was my favorite spot, the cafeteria where the smell of french fries and hamburger went up to heaven.

Bang!!! Zoom!!! The sound of noisy jet fighters came and went. That is unacceptable in today's airport neighborhoods. But then it was a given at the base and the entire city. It was, afterall, during or after the Vietnam War. As a 10 year old boy who knows about those things. The only thing I care about was that our little league baseball (hardball) team had not won a single game. We went to different places, including Canlubang, to play other teams. It was always painfully the same, L-O-S-E.

Inside the base, the streets were lined with fire trees beaming with their red-angry flowers. All the buildings were painted white. All the roads were strip painted yellow with proper signs and stickers. All traffic was running at designated speeds. It was a little USA inside Cavite City. How could that happen?

I grew up in Dalahican Cavite City, raduated in CNHS as 79ers. It used to be a very nice city tome. To be fair, when Sangley Point was closed in 1971 and taken by Philippine Government, there is a big difference before and after. According to Wikipedia the free encyclopedia, Cavite City now is a fourth class city in the province of Cavite. I went to Gen. Trias, Das Marinas, Trece Martires and Tagaytay, Cavite, these places are a lot and far more better now than Cavite City.
I still hope, when the C5 project that connects Manila, Kawit/Binakayan, and Cavite City is all done, Cavite City will get back to its primetime. There is also a big hope that, if Sangley Point will turn to be an "Open Port," lots of Cavitenos will have good jobs and better life.
On the other hand, you sail to Ferry Boats, from Sangley Point and Philippine Navy in PN, you will just end up to "The Mall Of Asia." If you want to beat traffic, use the ferry boat and, you will just sail to Luneta. Our San Roque Church, the Home of Nuestra Senora de La Soledad de Porta Vaga is all new and it rises very high that, you could see it from the shore of Kawit and Binakayan (Island Cove). Our palenque was moved closer to Canacao Bay. It has a big parking lot, a place where you can create Plaza. These are still some of the terrific facts that we Cavitenos still like to our beloved city!
When i get home and seeing the feature and condition of Cavite City at the present, It saddens me.

I WAS STATIONED THERE IN 70-71. I WAS ON BASE CLOSURE AND STAY THERE UP TO THE LAST MINUTE. WAS THE BEST DUTY I HAD THRU OUT MY WHOLE TOUR WHILE IN THE NAVY. I REMEMBER ALL THE BARS JUST OUTSIDE THE GATE AND THE SMELL OF FOOD COOKING AT ALL THE SIDEWALK CAFES. TACOS AND SMOKED MEAT ON A STICK. IT COULD HAVE BEEN MONKEY MEAT, I DON'T KNOW, BUT I SURE ENJOYED IT. HAD A GREAT TIME, WISH I COULD GO BACK TO THAT TIME IN MY LIFE. I GUESS MEMORIES WILL JUST HAVE TO DO.

I was born here and surely misses it alot. It was August-1967 when I happily left for San Francisco, USA; but have been seing it visually which puts smile on my face everytime.

In June-2008, I was back, walked down in the market area, all the way to Saint Joseph Church: the feeling within me was just great and filled with unexplained excitement; hahaha! I glanced at the sky, it looked the same; the streets have changed except for the busy jeepneys that seemed to multiply the last time I was vacationing in 1990.

I took my time in walking down Garcia street so I could try to feel the feelings which brought me back when I was playing soldier(carrying a wooden M-1 carbine) with some of my buddies/kapit bahay; hahaha! Boy...it certainly was a movie playing in my mind.

Cavite National High School, my Alma Mater, an Educational Institution which taught me alot as well, where I first realized that I was in love to a girl named Carmen---my first LOVE. I've first met her at Logia or Lohiya, which was a branch of San Roque Elementary School---an intelligent girl also.

Yes, like the others, I will and shall be back, everytime I go on vacationing to the Philippines, which I LOVE. Hahaha! SEE YA ALL AT FIESTAS..., and SALUDO to the guy that took all these truly memorable pictures---THANKS...

Bored and dazed here, edukatid, medicated, addictated, never appreciated. Lifetime friends, love of life -- met them all here. Most, myself included, have since abandoned it. Muslims, along with other outsiders, have invaded and changed the landscape -- what landscape? There's zero! Infuriating to see how time and uncaring residents have turned my little town, kung saan ako natuto ng aking kalokohan,into a desolate graveyard.

To all of the leaders of the City..our beloved city badly needs help..Our canacao and Bacoor bay was polluted..Our samonte park was not maintained very well..our garbage is everywhere..,illegal drugs are proliferated..Our historical landmark was ruined..Tsk..tsk..tsk sayang ka cavite city!!

I used to live in Cavite City 1945-1951 and went to school there, I would dearly love to find my best friend there, if he still lives there.
I tried to access the electoral roll but no luck, cansome one tell me how to access the electoral roll or offices by e-mail please or maybe some other gov.office that may help.

Wow. Great pics. I was deployed to Sangley with VP-1 in 1968 and 1969. We stopped over a few times again in 1970 on our way from Iwakuni to Cam Rahn. We spent a lot of time, and most of our money, in Cavite. Our favorite spot was Marie T's. What was interesting is that I met a lady a few years ago who is Filipino. When I asked her where she was from,she told me it was a place I never heard of "Cavite City". I told her it was a place I "was familiar with". Thanks for jogging the memory.

yes, i agree, cavite used to be a premier city especially during the American occupation. It's still a nice place to live in. moving around should be easy. within a short distance you can go to the market, school, church, hospital, park, beach. however as mentioned by bebang, cavite has deteriorated. the place is now heavily congested, traffic is everywhere, also beggars and small children, no more seashores to walk on because of squatters, etc. something went wrong. we were left behind by our neighboring towns! cavite used to be where the ilustrados and heroes were born and raised. what happened? maybe the ensuing generations became too passive, indifferent, or whatever that's why Cavite City became degenerated

i hope that cavite city will return to it's original beauty. Today, cavite city is still surviving amidst the problem it encounters. All we need is a moving government with more action than words. But we know that cavite city will be revived again because of the people praying for the city. We believe that God will restore the city and bring it back into His arms again. And as cavitenos, we believe that we are city of God's delight. And we are a vessels of life. God Bless Cavite City And All those who are living in it. Say no to graft and corruption but say yes to God...

Yes, I agree Cavite City is a beautiful town. I was born and raise in Cavite City. I was
last there in Nov 2007 for the town fiesta. We try to go home almost every 2 to 3 years.
I have been in the USA for 45 years and each time we go home to Cavite, it seems like
the once beautiful city is now a garbage dump. Sorry, for the awful remark!!! My heart
ached with the site I saw on the street everywhere. The once beautiful beach behind the
City Hall has now become a garbage dump!!! The beach at the entrance gate to Cavite City
has become a garbage dump also. I remember when it was once a very beautiful beach and
we would walk our walk before the dawn and gather some seashells or get some clams. What
a wonderful experience that once was. My question is what is this Mayor Paredes doing
about the cleaning up and beautification of CAVITE CITY? Is he just setting on his brain
with his behind or whattttt? He needs to get up his ASS and clean up this once beautiful
city. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!! By the way, your pictures are great however, it does not
speak for the present condition as of Nov 2007. Thanks for sharing with your Kababayan.

These are great pictures. I still have not had the opportunity to visit the Philippines. I was born in Canada, but my mom was born and raised in Cavite City. My dad was born and raised in Quezon City. I do plan to visit sometime soon, but I am excited to see pictures of the cities where my parents grew up. Thanks.

Thanks for the pictures. Brings back memories of the times I went to re-visit there.

Being born in Cavite City and raised in the states, I recently went back for a visit after 20 some odd years. Seeing McDo's there in the background is something familiar. I would walk from my grandma's house not too far from McDo's over to the market to get fruits to snack on and vegetables for dinner.

I'm planning on going there either November 2007 during the Fiesta or February 2008.
