June2004

Maple Mountain, UT

Wanda and I went hiking this morning to "try" to get some pictures of some baby woodpeckers. The parents were not working with us. After about an hour of waiting down the trail we went, and came to some grouse. The momma made some of the coolest noises while the babies were on the other side of us. Never seen a grouse HISS before, I thought someone was going to get attacked! Took a couple pictures of the babies, then down the trail we went. "STOP" I saw this baby deer, straight out of the oven in the middle of the trail. I got about 20 ft away and it let me snap a few pictures. So here this was a good day.

As cute as this picture is, it doesn't even begin to show how cute that little rascal was! I just wanted to pick him up and SqUEEZe him! I wish we could have spent all day taking pictures of him. Watching him wobble down the trail on his new legs was such a sight to behold. I went back up the same trail this morning in hopes of a repeat appearance, but no such luck. Wes and I really lucked out when we had this precious encounter!
