AROUND THE BEND
She broke free from
The barren trees
Stumbled o’re
Their tangled roots
Fell upon broken rocks
Tho’ now in brightness
She was still afraid
A pathway lay before her
A braid of sun dappled shade
It led into more sunshine
She did not understand
This wonder. Exactly
How it was made
She was still afraid
She passed a number
Of smaller trees
Their roots not so
Tangled, so bizarre
She bent and felt
Grasses soft beneath her feet
But she was still afraid
To cross a stream of
Swirling water required
Stepping on fearful rocks
Now round and firm
They held her weight
Courage entered her journey
No longer was she so afraid
Around the bend
She saw the houses
Tucked upon the hill
Crazy, wiggly houses
They beckon to her still
Houses that hold no people
Solitude is what she willed
She stands alone now.
Recognizing the landscape
Is painted from within
She yearns to run from
This portrayal. To escape,
To where the
People live
