Whitefield is situated 25 kms SE of Bangalore. The town began in 1888 when the Maharajah of Mysore gifted 3900 acres to the British Government for its settlers. White was the first settler, hence the name Whitefield. It soon became a haven for retired Anglo Indians and remains so to this day although numbers are sharply declining.
