Blue Note Records is a jazz record label, established in the late thirties by two jewish emigrants. The first hit for Blue Note was a performance of "Summertime" by saxophonist Sidney Bechet. Since then Blue Note has been the home of many famous jazz musicians and has recorded a lot of numbers and albums, which are jazz classics nowadays.
When I first listened to jazz music, way back in the sixties and early seventies, I soon became a fan of Blue Note Records. Not only attracted by the music but even more by the photographs and design of the album covers.
There was a special exhibition because of the 70. birthday of Blue Note Records at the jewish museum in Berlin, showing the images of the two Blue Note photographers, Francis Wolff and Jimmy Katz (since 1993). And of course I had to go there, to capture some of the great images of old jazz musicians. So here is a handfull of shots, wish I had done some more.
