This walk around Koerich represented in some ways an otherworldly experience. Koerich boasts a magnificent church with a remarkable tower (onion-shaped spire from 1791) and an exquisite baroque high altar. Next to the church there are the ruins of a medieval castle (12th - 13th century), which is now occasionally used as a cultural venue. Then, the forests around Koerich were ravaged by a violent storm in 2014, which left a great many trees broken, so much so that there is an eerie apocalyptic feel to the woods. To a large extent it has been decided to leave nature to do its own work to recuperate from the damage, and this will take a long while.
