When the railway line was built, taking trains to Brussels, in 1855 the unfortunate idea came up to place the tracks on the grounds of the abbey.
This meant that some of the gardens were cut off by the tracks.
Train travellers enjoy a spectacular view of the ruins, but it still seems a shame to have damaged the site in this way.
