Outside
Dodged thunderstorms as they grew all afternoon. Couldn't out run them so I picked the nearest airfield Yoakum Co. Texas. No tie downs to be seen so pulled behind some hangars to get out of winds.

Storm flattening out, dying down.

Looking west at sundown
It's hard to look at Texas without the influence of oil.

In Hanger
Grounded due to building thunderstorms at Yoakum Co. Airport. Made a call to Gary Walker about tie downs and he said he would be right out. Tie down ? Put it in my hangar next to the three twins( airplanes that is). What hospitality .All that and a cup of joe in the morning to see me off. Many thanks Gary!

Airstrip with train
Example of the many airports along the way. This one in SW Oaklahoma. I was truly amazed at how many trains were active throughout the country.

Missouri landscape
Just after this picture was taken, up sky a little bit, I landed at Jesse Viertel Memorial airport to have lunch or so I thought .Anyway I used the courtesy car and went to lunch, and when I returned I discovered I had a minor issue with my beautiful bird! Well after some mulling around and some help from one of the locale pilots I was able to hook up with Missouri's finest AI to help me threw my issue. What a guy and a fine mechanic too! Jim Sturguess THANK YOU! Thanks to John the airport Dude for your help too! As it turns out Jim is pretty good at recycling spoiled table wine, he removes the alcohol and burns it in his car!!!

Aeronca C3 Bathtub
Here is the future of Aviation as it should be. This young student pilot (15 years old if I remember right ) brought this C3 up from Louisiana on a trailer (a little help from Dad) put the wings on at Ottumwa IA. And pleased the crowd a number of times with some flybys . No loops and rolls this time.

Out of harms way
Sunday , after a delay to let the grass strip recover from torrential down pours the night before we departed Blakesburg around 4:15pm with Mat and Mike in their award winning Cadets. A couple of hours latter we flew up against a wall thunder storms the likes of witch this Pacific flyer has never seen!!! Once again a kind owner of this maintenance shop came from home and opened his hangar for the 3 wayward Cadets. Never have I been so grateful! Tornado watch too! Hurry so I can get to the hotel room to change my underwear !! Thank you Shenandoah Municipal airport !!

Interstates at Shenandoah
See the police car in the the left middle of the picture? Well it's retired , and is now the airport curtesy car. It was a lot of fun driving thru Shenandoah and watching traffic react to our own personal police unit!
