18-JAN-2011

18-Jan-2011

I was walking home after work, passing a place where one or two homeless people usually hang out.
As always, I'm afraid, I was doing my best to ignore them, pretending they weren't there.
Camera hanging over my shoulder, I had just passed them, when I heard: "Want a great picture?"
I was startled enough to stop, turn around, and say "Sure, what is it?"

He pulled out this sign and gave me a great smile.

I think I was taught a lesson today.

I give them $5 for two pictures. Never had anyone turn me down. I explain what I do and that they have to follow direction a bit. 45 seconds of work for 5 bucks. They "worked" for it, I feel good about myself, win-win.

Yep, it is easy to walk without noticing but it is always good to stop and talk. I try to do something for these guys. I love his smile. I'm assuming a Viet Nam Vet. What you did today made his day! :)

Nice work. Did you feel sort of obligated to give him some money? I am always so ambivalent about giving cash to homeless (instead of charities, for instance)
