I spent from May 1966 to May 1968 at Binh Thuy Air Base in the Mekong Delta in South Vietnam. The Mekong river flowed right next to the base and through the nearby Town of Can Tho. The North Vietnamese controlled the opposite bank of the river and used it to lob mortar shells onto the base at various times of the night. The shellings were infrequent and rarely did a lot of damage. The perimeter of the base was never breached while I was there but I understand the North Vietnamese did so during the Tet offensive in 1968. We spent some time in the village of Can Tho. If the North Vietnamese soldiers were among the citizens they never bothered us. These images were taken with a 35 mm slide film. I scanned the slides to get these prints and some are of poor quality.
