The Royal Theater, Archer City TX

For movie fans, The Royal Theater in Archer City, TX was featured in the classic movie. "The Last Picture Show". The movie was filmed in 1971 (set in the 1950s) and shot entirely on location in Archer City, the hometown of the Novel's author Larry McMurtry. It was the film debut for both Randy Quaid and Cybil Shepherd. Both Ben Johnson and Cloris Leachman won academy awards for their performance. The theater no longer functions as a movie theater and only the facade remains, the back of the theater was destroyed in a windstorm. The storefronts to the left of the facade now houses the theater where stage shows are given regularly
