The Soo Locks

The Soo locks located in Sault St Marie, MI were built to bypass the St Mary's river rapids which have a drop of 21 feet from Lake Superior to Lake Huron. The Locks move 10000 ships a year. The ships are lowered from Lake Superior and raised when passing from Lake Huron to Lake Superior.
