The Kerrville Train Depot, was a component of the San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railroad, incorporated in 1884. On October 6, 1887 the first train arrived in Kerrville carrying 500 passengers. Quite a crowd as the town population was only 300 people. The town and passengers celebrated the arrival of the railroad with a barbecue and Mexican Band. Kerrville was the last stop on the line and there was a roundhouse to turn the trains around. The original depot burned down in 1913, and a new one was constructed in 1915. The railroad and depot served until 1970 when the line was abandoned. The depot is now a restaurant called the Rails.
