This image shows the only ferry of it's kind still operating on the Ohio River. The ferry is sitting at the Northern terminus of Route 91 in Kentucky (which leads to Marion, KY). Across the Ohio River is Cave in Rock, Illinois at the Southern terminus of Illinois Route 1. Cave in Rock derives it's name from, well, a cave in a rock on the river once used by outlaws. The ferry is capable of carrying all types of vehicles including 18 wheelers and may be the most unique form of transportation for crossing the river. The ferry ride is free.
