The Beauregard Parish Jail, DeRidder, LA

Beauregard Parish Jail, referred to as the Gothic jail and sometimes as the Hanging jail, was built in 1914 in DeRidder, Louisiana and is of the Gothic Revival architecture style. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places[1] on December 17, 1981.[2] (Wikopedia). As an interesting aside, I spoke to a 40+ year old woman in DeRidder who was a schoolgirl when this jail was still in use. She told me that the jail had bars at that time but no windows. As she was walking home from school, the inmates used to hang out through the bars and yell to people walking by. The tower on top of the jail was where the hanging gallows was housed. The gallows is no longer there.
