waterfall on Maple Branch 1

Harry and I met Dana, Cathy and Kenny in the Frozen Creek parking area of Gorges State Park on Saturday morning. On the previous Thursday, The Transylvania Times had a big article about the park and developments. The park is still in it's infancy and official trails are limited. There was a nice picture of Lower Bearwallow Falls and the mention of 20 waterfalls on the property, but park officials really don't want people wandering around looking for them. Most are difficult hikes.

Our main destination was Lower Bearwallow Falls which is around an 8 mile roundtrip hike. Part way down the trail - Augerhole Rd - is a side trail that leads down to the confluence of Auger Fork Creek and Maple Spring Branch. Each has a nice waterfall. Pictured above is the waterfall on Maple Spring Branch through the trees.
