We added a shed to the back corner of the lot in July 2015. In late 2016 I began covering the grass with wood chips, beginning at the back of our lot. My plan was to do one or 2 beds at a time and I began with the back right area that got a lot of sun. I dug out a lot of the forsythia bushes and hand dug the grass in the curved bed I wanted. Fall is a good time to plant perennials, so I hit the garden center and got that bed finished. There were at least 50 hostas scattered about the property and I relocated a few of those also.

It's now spring 2017 and the perennials I put in last fall have come back to life. I've used survey flags to define another bed on the left and will cover it with wood chips once I get some more. Since our roof is flat, I can easily get up on it to take pictures and get a better view of what I hope to accomplish this year.
