July 10 - East Fork Headwaters Tract

You may have heard about the recent deal where the Carolina Mountain Land Conservancy and The Conservation Fund will acquire 8,000 acres in Transylvania County from the Taylor family. More details can be found here -

Bernie has been doing some recon in the area and I wanted to see some of what he found. The waterfall pictured here is called Hidden Falls. I had seen this one before, but in other literature it's called Reece Place Falls. It was on the way to where we were headed, so we stopped again for more pictures. This one is 60-70' high. The problem now is that the land hasn't been transferred and this area is leased by a local hunting club. Bernie hadn't had any problems before, but when we were done and getting ready to leave, a guy came up on an ATV and told us we were not allowed on the property. So I can't tell you how to get here. You'll have to wait until it's officially open to the public - sorry. Here's a map of the area -
