Yarrow

Yarrow - Achillea millefolium - is a very common wildflower in bloom this time of year. This is a nice area even when the rhodos aren't in bloom. If you go any time soon, be prepared for crews repaving the road to the picnic area and also the Parkway before getting to Craggy. From here I headed to Craggy Pinnacle in hopes of more pink. As I was pulling in, fellow photographer Susan Stanton and her husband John were pulling out. I didn't notice it was them, but they noticed me and pulled back in. I hadn't seen them in quite a while and we ended up chatting for about 30 minutes. Susan is one helluva photographer - check out her images here - http://www.susanstanton.com/

There wasn't much else happening here either. I started up the trail through the rhododendron tunnel, but turned around when I saw there wasn't much in bloom. The view from the top wasn't going to be any good either, so I figured I'd try my luck at Mt Mitchell.
