BLA
===================
I was composing the above shot - as you can see, I didn't quite finish, I got distracted by below - the original idea was that play of the B and the distant LA; a typical LA scene (high end cars like Bentley's parked just anywhere on the street; LA, the capital of conspicuous consumption) I didn't get a chance to compose perfectly or choose my ideal aperture for DOF...
when the homeless person pushed a shopping cart containing all his worldly possessions started to enter my frame. I could see him coming across from the left (I use a two eye open framing technique when shooting "unstill life" - this is where RF's can come in handy)
Separation
The irony of the shot flashed across my minds eye, I swung the camera around and racked the zoom (I normally shoot primes, so chalk one up to the usefulness of zooms) even as I was moving into a better position but by the time I got even anything close to a decent framing that I could crop later in post, the homeless person and his "mobile home" was out of position.
"Separation" :
between the cars;
between the trees;
between this side of the street and that side;
between the Bentley driver and the homeless person;
between the ultimate example of British old school craftsmanship and
the ultimate pragmatism of the shopping cart, a "Purist" vehicle in its own way.
The name of the shop - Urban Outfitters - was just a juicy ironic cherry on top.
