Housed as one of the most exquisite masterpieces inside the Delphi Archaeological Museum, the famous white-ground kylix portrays the god Apollo in a moment of serene, divine tranquility.
Dating back to approximately 480–470 BC, this classic Greek drinking cup features a rare white-ground painting technique that captures Apollo seated on an elegant folding stool, wearing a laurel wreath and a flowing dark mantle. He gracefully holds his signature seven-stringed lyre in one hand while pouring a libation from a shallow bowl with the other, completely unbothered by a black crow perched quietly on a branch before him—a bird heavily tied to his mythology as his divine messenger.
