Attached vertically near the door handle of the oxidized copper door is a stylized pastoral staff (crozier). This symbolizes the spiritual authority and pastoral care of the bishop, directly referencing Archbishop Willigis, who founded St. Stephan in 990 AD and was buried at the church in 1011.
