Looking down at the breathtaking choir floor mosaic inside Cologne Cathedral. Designed by August Essenwein and completed in 1880 to mark the grand final completion of the cathedral, this sprawling masterpiece covers roughly 1,300 square meters. The intricate ceramic circular medallions tell a deeply symbolic story, tracing the history of the archdiocese, the progression of humankind, and the order of the cosmos under the soaring Gothic vaults.
