Charlemagne’s Throne is a simple, unadorned marble chair dating back to around 800 AD. Built using spolia stone slabs retrieved from the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem, this modest seat served as the official coronation site for over 30 German kings across six centuries. Its understated design directly contrasts with the shimmering mosaics and grand Carolingian architecture surrounding it.
