The west facade of Aachen Cathedral showcases centuries of architectural evolution. Founded by Charlemagne in 796 AD, the complex features a Carolingian Palatine Chapel core, surrounded by Gothic elements and refined by 17th- and 18th-century Baroque remodeling.
