The Mainz Cathedral (Mainzer Dom or St. Martin's Cathedral) stands as one of the most significant examples of Romanesque architecture along the Rhine, with over 1,000 years of rich history. Although heavy bombing during World War II destroyed much of the surrounding city center, the main structure of the cathedral stood undamaged.
