The Vairocana Buddha at Fengxian Temple is the crown jewel of the Longmen Grottoes in Luoyang, China. Carved in 675 CE during the Tang dynasty with funding from Empress Wu Zetian, this open-air colossal statue stands 17.14 meters (56 feet) tall, featuring a serene, enigmatic smile often dubbed the "Eastern Mona Lisa". Art historians believe the Buddha's gentle, plump facial features were modeled after Empress Wu Zetian herself.
