Carved during the Northern Wei Dynasty (500 - 523 AD), the Binyang Middle Cave (賓陽中洞) is among the oldest structures at the Longmen Grottoes. The statues from this period feature elongated, slender facial features—a stark contrast to the rounder, fuller faces typical of the later Tang Dynasty style.
