Het Steen is the oldest surviving building in Antwerp and one of the city’s most recognizable medieval landmarks, located along the River Scheldt. Originally built as a fortified castle in the early Middle Ages, much of the present structure dates from the early 13th century. The name “Het Steen” simply means “The Stone.”
