Painted Desert Inn

view map

Originally built in the 1920s out of petrified wood and mud—earning it the nickname "Stone Tree House", the Painted Desert Inn was redesigned by the National Park Service in the Pueblo Revival style in the 1930’s. It sits at the northern portion of the park and offers a great view of the Painted Desert. It has not been a lodge for travelers since 1963. It is listed as a National Historic Landmark and now serves as a museum.
