King Gustav II Adolf's Statue stands in front of the Royal Swedish Opera in Stockholm. Saint Jacob's Church is in the background. This equestrian statue was created by French sculptor Pierre Hubert L'Archevêque and erected in 1796. Gustav II Adolf (1594-1632), often referred to as the Lion of the North, was instrumental in Sweden’s rise as a dominant force in the Thirty Years’ War.
