View at the top of Skógafoss

view map

Looking towards the east from the head of Skógafoss waterfall, one can see the Skógar Museum (the second row of white buildings) and also the flat-top tuya mountain Pétursey, which stands 275 meters above the southern coast. Tuyas are formed by eruptions beneath thick ice sheets during the Ice Age. They can be recognized by their steep sides and flat tops. You can also see another example in my Antarctica gallery at https://pbase.com/wailee6/image/175101644
